I started my internship at ZAWP today. ZAWP (Zorrotzaurre Art Work in Progress) is a project of the non-profit association Haceria Arteak. It’s a cultural hub that’s difficult to describe with only a few words! ZAWP promotes collaboration between creative people, sustainability, the revitalisation of empty spaces in the city. The spaces may be transitory but ZAWP continues evolving and moves on to new spaces and new projects as time goes on.
I’m going to be working at Haceria with another student from Vocational College Lappia. We’ll be staying in Bilbao until mid-December. We visited Haceria (a ZAWP space we’ll be working at) on Monday, and Tuesday was the first proper work day. The day started with a meeting about our objectives for the stay.
The building ZAWP is in is going to be demolished and the project is going to split to two new locations: One will be an industrial style event hall in an old factory and the other will house the workshops and cultural productions along with the office that coordinates all the activity. During my internship I’m going to be working with Elina, who’s a visiting teacher from Southern Finland, on developing a new visual identity for these places. The new look will incorporate parts of the old logo and style but both places will have their own visual identity.
